One Big Union

March of 1919, delegates from the majority of the local unions from western Candada met at the Western Labour Conference in Calgary.  They publicly announced that they were going to support Bolshevik and some of the other left wing revolutions. They condcted a poll within the Canadian union on whether or not they should reisgn from the American Federation of Labour and The Trades and Labour congress of Canada and from a Revoluntionary industrial union and be called The One Big Union. The majority of the votes came from the Western part of Canada. The One Big Union launched in early June that year. Thousands of works joined the Union. Including people from the mines, transportation, logging etc. The One Big Union had almost 50 000 members from all over Canada but the majority came from Northern Ontairo. The Craft Union fought every act the One Big union tried to make. By 1923 the union had about 5000 members. In 1953, The One Big Union was joined forces and turned into the Canadian Labour Congress.
