Canada's military participation in World war 1

World war 1 was the worlds bloodiest conflict killing about 61 000 Canadians. It made many people fear the military until world war 2. The Canadian military has many great accomplishments including the battle of Passchendaele, Ypres and Vimy Ridge. This provided Canada with a sense of relief because they were confident they could stand on their own. World war 1 casused many problems between french and english speaking Canadians. The Canadian government did not necessarialy want to go to war but because they were apart of the british empire they were forced to offer them aid. When Canada was first called out to war they waited for men to voluntarily register for the military but they did not have enough men. The prime minister then made it manditory for men ages 20 to 45 register themselves for the military. This brought up the Conscprition bill causing more problems than fixing.2  Canada first made up a regular army consisting of 3110 men and a fledging army. Within a few weeks of there first army, a group of 32 000 men gathered from Valcartier camp which is located near Quebec City and registered themselves into the military. Before two months was over the first contingent, Canadian Expeditionary force was already making it's way to England. Heading over through the Newfloundland coast. They were aboard the largest convoy to ever cross the atlantic. The first Canadian troops arrived in France. Princess Patrica's Canadian light infantry which is part of what formed an outbreak of war it was full of ex-British army soliders.
